Jacaranda FM Unveils Striking New On-Air Studios – A Masterclass in Modern Radio Broadcast Design

Jacaranda FM, one of South Africa’s premier regional stations based in Midrand, recognised this and partnered with MMPA to deliver a complete studio transformation that elevates their brand while ensuring uninterrupted broadcasting.
MMPA was commissioned to design and deliver brand-new On-Air Studios on the ground floor, positioned prominently facing Reception. The brief was clear: create a bold, contemporary look and feel fully aligned with Jacaranda FM’s corporate identity — a space so visually compelling it immediately captures attention and reinforces the station’s dynamic, high-end positioning.
A key driver for the ground-floor build was operational continuity. By constructing the new studios downstairs, Jacaranda FM could remain fully live on air while the existing first-floor facilities underwent renovation — minimising downtime and keeping the audience engaged without interruption.
Design Highlights That Set a New Standard
Both the ground-floor and first-floor On-Air Studios feature:
- Large, soundproof glass shopfronts that create an open, inviting atmosphere while delivering professional acoustic isolation.
- Custom technical furniture with premium Corian worktops and height-adjustable desks engineered for presenter comfort during long shifts.
- Dramatic LED backlighting and a cohesive, high-impact aesthetic that perfectly reflects the station’s vibrant identity.
- Dedicated performance stages built to host live bands and musicians, especially popular during morning shows.
- Broadcast-grade TV-style lighting throughout, optimised for High Definition video recording and seamless live streaming — turning every broadcast into premium multi-platform content.
The project extended far beyond the main on-air spaces. MMPA also designed a dedicated Podcast and General-Purpose Studio equipped with a massive 1.5mm pixel-pitch LED display (1920mm x 3780mm) and full TV lighting, ideal for video shoots, interviews, and enhanced digital content creation.
In addition, the upgrade included full fit-outs and technical refreshes to all control rooms, production studios, the music library, and video suites — ensuring every part of the facility meets the highest standards for modern radio and digital broadcasting.
