Acoustic Comparison of LMUs to Traditional Materials
Lightweight Masonry Units (LMUs) such as Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) and polystyrene-filled blocks are popular for their low density (250–800 kg/m³), excellent thermal insulation, fire resistance, and reduced structural loading. At 60–80% air by volume, they are dramatically lighter than traditional clay bricks or dense concrete, promising faster construction and lower foundation costs.
However, when it comes to acoustic performance, LMUs often fall short of traditional materials.
